Emotional Regulation Tools for Your Classroom
At The Nora Project, we work closely with the educators teaching our programs each year. This continuous relationship allows us to address and adjust lessons as needed and to get a better sense of what teachers are experiencing -- TNP related or otherwise. This year, we’ve heard over and over again that the pandemic has brought on a whole new set of challenges as school staff navigate the return to in-person instruction.
A common theme has been that students are demonstrating a greater need for support with emotional regulation. For a number of reasons, some students are no longer familiar with a typical social environment where they practice their emotional regulation skills and receive age-appropriate coaching from their teachers. Some students have suffered trauma over the past 18+ months, which shows up differently for everyone in the classroom. Now, students have re-entered the classroom environment and are attempting to navigate peer relationships.
If you’ve been looking for simple tools and strategies to use with students in your classroom to support their emotional regulation skills, look no further. We’ve assembled some of our favorite tools and strategies in the PDF download below. You’ll find ideas for helping students notice their emotions so they are better able to regulate themselves and stay engaged with the academic content and social relationships in your classroom.
If you’re using these tools in your classroom, tell us about it! Be sure to tag us on your favorite social media platform. And, if you’re looking for more resources to use in your classroom to support social/emotional learning, you can find them here.
