Family Fun Night Recap
As we spend yet another month stuck in our homes, we continue to look for new and innovative entertainment options to keep our families busy. Finding activities that are engaging while also being inclusive of all abilities, however, can be quite challenging. In a partnership with the folx at Elementary Science Olympiad and with the support of Double Good, we co-hosted an inclusive STEM Family Fun Night event at one of our partner schools, Indian Knoll Elementary, on February 24th, 2021.
At The Nora Project, we are thrilled to support incredible organizations like Science Olympiad to provide the most inclusive activities possible. As we worked together with the Science Olympiad team through the planning phases of the Fun Night, our key focus was on the inclusion of Universal Design features for all activities. This means that our focus was on creating accommodating, accessible, equitable, and flexible guidelines that ensured that all participants felt not only accepted, but welcomed when participating in activities.
Nora Project students got involved in a variety of ways during this event. The STEMpathy Club at Indian Knoll worked together to assemble materials kits for all of the participating families. During the event, they were on hand to provide translation services and captured footage of the participants. Families from our Storyteller Classrooms enjoyed the activities at home with their families.
As the night unfolded, we watched families turn into scientists as they completed activities such as the Gummi Bear Long Jump and Straw Tower. The night was filled with more excitement, entertainment, and fun than we could have imagined! We are so thankful to Science Olympiad and Double Good for making this night a reality for one of our partner schools and for including us in the process.
