Announcing the “Raising Kids Who Include” Webinar

The Nora Project is excited to announce a new offering for anyone in a child’s “village,” who contributes to their growth and development. Our Raising Kids Who Include presentation! Raising Kids Who Include is designed to provide practical, actionable advice and strategies for supporting kids as they develop the beliefs and skills needed to include others.

The content of this presentation is relevant to all children. It aims to support disabled children in fostering identity pride, developing their relationship with their own disability and the disability community, as well as self-advocacy skills. Nondisabled children will learn to expect and accept disability in all its forms and develop advocacy skills. We offer steps that parents, caregivers, and community members can take to develop their own Ability Inclusive Mindset so that they are prepared to lead by example.

It takes work and practice to develop an Ability Inclusive Mindset, and this presentation provides suggestions for how to support all kids in growing their identities as ‘includers.’ The first part of the presentation is informational in nature, offering simple, intentional actions which help build children’s empathy skills as well as their ability to recognize disability is a natural and expected part of human diversity. The latter half of the presentation addresses common questions and scenarios pertaining to disability that most parents will encounter at some point as their children grow up. We offer ways to reframe, coach, and support kids’ understanding of disability as it relates to them personally and to those in their communities.

The primary goal of this presentation is to provide people with information and suggestions that build their confidence in raising inclusive kids. It takes nurturing and coaching to help our kids develop inclusive instincts, and this presentation can be a first step toward preparing parents and community members to make that happen.

Check out what an attendee had to share about the Raising Kids Who Include presentation:
“As the parent of a disabled child, we've dealt with quite a bit of ableism and lack of inclusion in life. I was really excited for the Nora Project presentation about raising inclusive kids, and it surpassed all of my expectations. It was amazing to hear others explain how inclusion is beneficial to everyone, not just my child, and how myself and others can help raise our children to support an inclusive mindset. I very much appreciated the emphasis on parents searching out books, shows, toys, etc to introduce the concepts of disabilities, specifically from disabled creators, so that my child does not need to be a teaching point for their kids. I cannot wait for the day where kids and adults alike won’t be shocked to see my son using a wheelchair, and I truly believe The Nora Project is going to help our society get there. I would wholeheartedly recommend The Nora Project to everyone and can only hope that their message of raising inclusive kids spreads far and wide so that children like my son can have meaningful inclusion throughout school and life.”

This presentation is a great option for parent groups, community organizations, religious institutions, and more. To book a Raising Kids Who Include presentation, reach out to Anitra Rowe Schulte at Anitra@TheNoraProject.ngo and Jordyn Zimmerman at Jordyn@TheNoraProject.ngo.
