Inclusive Family Fun for the Winter Around Chicagoland And Virtually

Can you believe it is already the end of November?! The winter months have arrived and if you are a parent like me, you’re probably thinking “How am I going to keep my kids busy and entertained as the weather gets colder?” This holiday and winter season will look vastly different than it has in previous years with varied levels of restrictions and precautions. Have no fear! We have compiled a list of accessible family fun events and activities you can attend in-person around Chicagoland or virtually.

  1. Sensory Garden and Playground in Lisle: The playground was recently expanded to now include an accessible tree house, zig-zagging elevated boardwalk, and slides that accompany the existing adaptive music play section, and horse stable themed play park. Perfect for a cool Saturday morning of family play!

  2. It’s a Wonderful Life- Live in Chicago Virtual: The second longest-running holiday show in Chicago can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home this year! Watch live as the incredible cast recreates the entire town of Bedford Falls with Foley sound effects, an original score, and holiday carols. Tickets start at $25 and the show runs Nov 12, 2020 – Jan 2, 2021. Captioning will be available.

  3. Oak Brook Park District Sandlot Playground: The $1 million all inclusive all accessible playground will be open and free to the public the entire fall and winter. Have fun on the ziplines, saucer swing, roller slides, and the spongy surface that is easy for all mobility aids to move on!

  4. Holiday Sing Along with the Symphony: Make a batch of cookies, gather your family, and go caroling from your couch! A concert full of the most festive carols, a Hanukkah medley, and other orchestral seasonal favorites, Maestro Muspratt and the New York Philharmonic will spark your sing-along spirit. To ensure no one skips a beat, lyrics will be displayed on the bottom of the screen. Premieres Dec 12th and runs through Jan 3rd.

  5. Virtual Visit with Signing Santa: Have a child who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing? Book a Zoom session with signing Santa and have your child share their wishlist!
