TNP's Favorite Disability Activists on the 'Gram

Back in July, Lauren shared TNP’s favorite Twitter hashtags to follow if you’re an aspiring ally for people with disabilities. Another great place to connect with disabled activists is on Instagram, where you get the chance to really see into people’s lived experiences through posts that often feel really personal. There are so many great accounts to follow, but here are a few of our very favorites.

@crutches_and_spice

Imani Barbarin is a writer, public speaker, content creator, model, actress, and bad a** disability activist. Imani has nearly 50k followers and uses a dry sense of humor to help people identify and combat ableism in themselves and society. Give Imani a follow if you want to learn more about ableism, enjoy some excellent TikTok videos and Reels, and get schooled on the regular.

@disabilityreframed

Ashley uses the @disabilityreframed platform to share educational content about disability - what it is to live with disability, the way society perceives it, examples of ableism, and more. Over the next few months she’s planning a series about the different models of disability, that you won’t want to miss.

@carson_tueller

Carson’s feed is full of body-positivity and real talk about what it’s like to live a disabled life. He shares his workout routines, his perspectives on love and sex, and his daily experiences as a wheelchair user. Fun fact: Carson was a trusted policy advisor for Andrew Yang’s presidential campaign.

@nina_tame

You won’t find a more colorful feed than Nina’s. Her hair, her home, and her commentary all brighten up your day. Nina doesn’t play - she fiercely calls out ableism while also providing common sense guidance for folx about how to be an aspiring ally and all around better person.

@keah_maria

Keah Brown is author of The Pretty One: On Life, Pop Culture, Disability, and Other Reasons to Fall in Love with Me and creator of #disabledandcute. She’s an activist through her writing and has recently taken on the fashion industry, calling for more accessible options.
