Welcome TNPs newest team members: Katie & Amie!
The Nora Project team continues to grow! This summer, we eagerly welcomed our two newest additions to the team: Katie Carr and Amie Richards.
Katie Carr (she/her/hers) joined as our communications manager, where she cultivates and shares TNP’s mission through all things communications; including the Nora Notes blog and social media channels among other marketing efforts.
Katie is a recent college graduate with a passion for using social media for advocacy and was excited to bring her lived and educational experience to the team. She attended the University of Pittsburgh where she received a degree in Public and Professional Writing with a minor in Studio Arts and helped teach a course called “Professional Uses of Social Media.” She attended Pitt as a Stamps Scholar which allowed her to cultivate her passion for service and hone her leadership skills. While in college she also became heavily involved with the service dog community and volunteered her time by helping raise puppies and educating the public on service dog etiquette, which paired her passions for advocacy, dogs, and helping others. She now lives in her hometown of Erie, PA where she enjoys taking her pet dogs to Lake Erie, crafting, and spending time with her friends and family.
When Katie was on boarded to the team she shared, "I'm ecstatic to be working with an organization that truly understands and prioritizes inclusion. As a late diagnosed neurodivergent woman, I struggled in the educational system and didn’t quite understand why, until I was in college. If these programs were available when I was growing up, attending school would have been a much more accepting space and positive experience overall. Teaching empathy and inclusion to students is truly the first step to creating a more accessible future and I’m honored to be a part of The Nora Project’s mission of building inclusive classrooms.”
Amie Richards (she/her/hers) joined as our partner success manager. In this role, she is focusing on cultivating and maintaining successful relationships between The Nora Project, participating schools, and community partners.
Amie lives in Methuen, Massachusetts with her husband, their two-year-old son, and their two cats. She earned undergraduate degrees in Elementary Special Education and Psychology, as well as a graduate degree in Reading Specialty. Over nearly a decade as an educator, Amie has worked with students of all ages in a variety of settings from one-on-one tutoring to whole classroom teaching. Her favorite subjects to teach were reading and spelling. Amie enjoys drawing, reading, and watching tv and also has a passion for traveling and exploring new places.
When asked why she’s most excited to join team TNP, Amie shared, “From a young age I always felt isolated by my disability. From student, to teacher, to mother, I always felt judged for my appearance and my condition. Those experiences in education and life inspired me to bring about change in the way that disability is viewed and addressed. The Nora Project has given me the means to bring about changes in the way that we approach disability in an educational and professional setting. As a staff member of The Nora Project I am looking forward to building a community where disability is seen as an asset rather than a hindrance, and where empathy and understanding always come first.”
